Volunteering in a Hospital, Diani – Starting 1 Month

Today is dedicated to preparing you for your volunteer experience. You'll start with a comprehensive orientation session, covering important topics such as:

Cultural norms and etiquette
Basic Swahili language introduction
Health and safety briefing
Tour of Diani and surrounding areas
The day concludes with a welcome dinner, allowing you to meet fellow volunteers and local staff.

For the next 24 days, you'll be fully immersed in your volunteer work at the local hospital. Each day will bring new experiences and challenges, contributing to your personal and professional growth. Your typical day may include:

Morning briefing with hospital staff
Assisting in various departments (e.g., general ward, pediatrics, maternity)
Shadowing local doctors and nurses
Participating in community outreach programs
Helping with administrative tasks and record-keeping

Throughout your volunteer period, you'll have the opportunity to rotate through different departments, gaining a comprehensive understanding of healthcare delivery in a resource-limited setting. On your final day, you'll prepare for your journey home. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for last-minute souvenir shopping or a final stroll on Diani Beach. The program coordinator will arrange your transfer back to Moi International Airport in Mombasa, where you'll depart with a wealth of memories, new skills, and lifelong connections.
