We welcome volunteers who are fluent in English, have a passion for education, and possess a patient and adaptable nature. However, if you have teaching experience or a related degree (e.g., Education, English, Mathematics), it would be beneficial. We provide a teaching workshop during orientation to equip you with basic skills and methodologies suitable for the local context.

Volunteers typically teach English, Mathematics, and basic Science, foreign language etc, depending on the needs of the school and your preferences. The students are usually between 6 and 14 years old, attending primary school. You may be assigned to a specific class or rotate between different age groups. We try to match your skills and interests with the school's requirements to ensure the best experience for both you and the students.
3. How many hours per day will I be teaching?
You'll typically teach for 4-5 hours each weekday. This includes classroom time and may also involve assisting with extracurricular activities or tutoring sessions. Afternoons are usually reserved for lesson planning and preparation for the next day. While the schedule is structured, there's flexibility to accommodate your energy levels and the school's needs.

5. Where will I be staying during the program?
Volunteers are accommodated in a shared volunteer house or with a carefully selected host family in Likoni. Both options offer a safe, comfortable environment with basic amenities. The volunteer house features shared rooms, communal areas, and Wi-Fi. Staying with a host family provides a more immersive cultural experience. Meals are typically provided, featuring local Kenyan cuisine with options for dietary requirements.

Comprehensive safety briefing during orientation

Pack light, comfortable clothing suitable for hot, humid weather and conservative dress standards for school. Essential items include:

Lightweight, breathable clothing covering shoulders and knees
Comfortable walking shoes and sandals

Mosquito repellent
Basic first-aid kit and any personal medications

Researching Kenyan culture, customs, and education system
Learning basic Swahili phrases (though English is widely used)
Being open-minded and ready to adapt your teaching style
Preparing some lessons in advance, but remaining flexible
Bringing educational materials from your home country to share
Our orientation and teaching workshop will provide specific guidance for the local context.

While two weeks may seem short, your impact can be significant:
You'll provide valuable English language practice for students
Your presence exposes students to different cultures and perspectives
You can assist in developing students' confidence and communication skills
You may introduce new teaching methods or materials to local teachers
Your enthusiasm can inspire students' interest in learning
